TT Rewind - 2005
The TT underwent a long-overdue transformation in 2005, as the Formula 1 TT was rebranded the Superbike TT, the Production TT evolved into the Superstock TT, and the Junior TT was renamed the Supersport TT.
Morecambe’s John McGuinness, who had claimed victory in the final Formula 1 TT twelve months previous, delivered Yamaha the perfect 50th anniversary gift by piloting his R1 to triumph in the inaugural Superbike TT. It was a win that would prove symbolic, heralding the arrival of the modern TT era alongside McGuinness’s growing dominance.
While Ian Lougher, Ryan Farquhar, and Bruce Anstey each added victories to their résumés, John McGuinness returned to centre stage with a commanding win in the Senior TT. It marked the first Superbike-Senior double for the 'Morecambe Missile,' a feat that would soon become a defining hallmark of the modern TT era, much to the delight of fans.
