It was John Holden and Andy Winkle versus Klaus Klaffenbock and Daniel Sayle in this battle of the titans, following Klaffenbock’s earlier win that week.
As with the earlier Sidecar Race, it was Klaffenbock and Sayle that set off quickest with Holden and Winkle 3.5 seconds behind, closely followed by Conrad Harrison and Mike Aylott. Pairing Tony Elmer and Darren Marshall were also climbing up the leader board.
With speeds in excess of 114mph, Klaffenbock continued to dominate this race and at one point had a lead of 16.94 seconds over Holden. However, things quickly changed when one of the leading duos encountered technical difficulties.
The winning pair took home a dream TT win, coming in a whopping 45 seconds clear – their first ever winner’s podium and one of the most popular victories in the Isle of Man TT’s Sidecar Races history. A real race of firsts, the second place went to a duo claiming their best-ever second result, with third place bestowed to Elmer & Marshall – their debut TT podium.
