The winning rider in this 2013 TT Zero Race officially broke the previous clean emissions lap and race records he’d set at the electric bike race in 2012.
This one-lap race was a two-man battle between Michael Rutter, riding for team MotoCzysz, and John McGuinness, riding for the Mugen outfit.
Only seconds divided the duelling pair throughout – the other riders trailing behind in their wake. 2009 winner Robert Barber, riding the Ohio State University machine, put in a great performance alongside George Spence on the Kingston University bike.
As the record-breaking race concluded, the winner took home his victory by a miniscule two seconds, making for a nail-biting finale. Ian Lougher, riding for Komatti Mirai, announced it would be his last TT and paid a touching tribute to Yoshinari Matsushita who had tragically died earlier that week.
