This close Bennetts Lightweight TT race at the 2016 Isle of Man TT, was a battle between the former year’s champion, Ivan Lintin, and lightweight pro James Hillier.
It was Lintin that initially led, but by just a fraction of a second over Hillier who was keen to overthrow the former winner, while Michael Rutter and Italian Stefano Bonetti jumped up the order to third and fourth.
As the four-lap race progressed, Lintin and Hillier swapped lead positions several times, the difference between the pair remaining negligible – making it either of the riders’ race to take home.
Following an early retirement from one of the top four riders, Martin Jessopp moved up the leader board, but was a minute adrift of the two frontrunners who were pressing ahead in their race to take the winner’s podium.
The subsequent winner made it three successive wins for his team Devitt RC Express Racing. The battle for third went all the way to the flag, eventually going to Jessopp – his maiden TT podium.
