Peter Hickman, who already had two 2022 wins under his belt, was locked in a two-horse race with Michael Dunlop throughout this Bennetts Supertwin race at the Isle of Man TT Races. The two Paton drivers fought off stiff competition from Jamie Coward, Lee Johnston, Frenchman Pierre Yves Bian, James Hind and Paul Jordan.
Dunlop led on the majority of the first lap, but Hickman turned his deficit into a 0.8 second advantage by Ballaugh Bridge. But by the time they’d got to the Bungalow, Dunlop had edged ahead – the race continued in this vein throughout, just fractions of seconds separating the pair as they flitted back and forth between first and second.
The leader board took a shuffling though as the riders flashed along Glencrutchery Road to start their final lap, following two high profile retirements. Hickman however was cruising towards his third win of the week, with the promoted Johnston in his wake. Third place was still anyone’s though with just a handful of seconds covering Bian, Jordan, and Hind. The eventual third placed rider powered on to take their debut TT podium.
