2016 Superbike TT
30m
History was made in the RST Superbike Race of the 2016 Isle of Man TT Races. Michael Dunlop and Ian Hutchinson together shattered both the lap and race records in their mission to take the number one spot.
Dunlop signalled his intentions from the off, taking the lead from the start, closely followed by the Hutchinson and James Hillier. Dunlop was on a lap record pace from a standing start though, and on the first lap, recorded the first ever sub-17-minute lap of the Mountain Course.
Pre-race favourite, John McGuiness was gunning for the pair though, alongside Michael Rutter and Dean Harrison – all lapping in excess of 130mph!
By the second circuit, Dunlop had smashed yet another record, putting in an astonishing lap of 133.393pmh, extending his lead all the while.
As the race entered its final third, Dunlop, Hutchinson and McGuiness were all circulating on the road together, to the excitement of fans lining the circuit.
The race went right down to the wire, with the winner sweeping to his 12th TT victory.
