This hectic 2016 TT Zero race got off to a flying start which saw John McGuinness, winner of the previous two years races, set off at number one on his Mugen Shinden machine. He was closely followed by teammate Bruce Anstey, with William Dunlop in third on his Victory Brammo Power bike.

Belgian outfit Sarolea didn’t get past a qualifying lap as their riders were unable to resolve the technical issues from earlier in the week, eventually pushing the bikes off the grid.

As the race continued, New Zealander Anstey was now flying to the front, just as his teammate, Morecambe man McGuiness, suffered a temporary technical fault – which ended up losing him four minutes, and ultimately a podium place.

Anstey and Dunlop continued to battle it out until the bitter end, with the winner duly taking his 11th TT win, and his first in the class. Third place went to Daley Mathison on the Electric 1 University of Nottingham machine – their first ever TT podium.
