2018 TT Zero
3m 35s
This one-lap TT Zero Race at the 2018 TT got off to a flying start, with Michael Rutter and his Japanese Mugen machine, away first, closely followed by his teammate Lee Johnston.
The University of Nottingham’s Daley Mathison was less than a second back in third, keen to retain a position on the podium, following his success in the class in 2017 and 2016.
The three leaders rattled through the course, with over a minute separating them and the back riders which included James Cowton racing for Brunel University and Ian Lougher for Team Mirai.
Following an early retirement, Rutter continued to dominate the roads with Mathison close on his tail. Johnson had to stop for a brief spell due to a technical issue – with two helpful spectators coming to his rescue!
Meanwhile, the winner duly came home to take a new lap record of 121mph in just over 18 and a half minutes – breaking John McGuiness’s 2015 record by over 20 seconds!
