In this episode of TT Explained, we take an in-depth look at how the Isle of Man TT is structured across its two‑week schedule. From the opening practice sessions through to qualifying and into race week, each phase plays a role in preparing riders and machines for competition.
Practice and qualifying provide essential time on the Mountain Course, allowing competitors to build familiarity, refine setup and establish starting positions. As the event moves into race week, the focus shifts to performance across a schedule of ten races, run under a time trial format with competitors starting individually at staggered intervals. Races are contested over differing lap counts and distances depending on class, with some requiring pit stops, placing additional demands on riders and teams, and influencing decision‑making, strategy and consistency throughout each race.
