2011 Supersport TT Race 2
21m
With a flurry of late retirements, and two red flags, this was a dramatic second Superport Race for the 2011 Isle of Man TT Races.
Gary Johnson and John McGuinness put in a great show for spectators, both vying for first place. However, Johnson was in control throughout the race, leading by three seconds clear of McGuinness by the first checkpoint – a lead he’d amazingly trebled by the time the riders swept through the Ramsey Hairpin.
Race favourite, Michael Dunlop, took an early retirement, but later proceeded – his opening lap almost 46 minutes!
Johnson continued to show form, and on the second circuit was 15 seconds clear of McGuinness, an almost unprecedented margin in the Supersport class.
Other great performances included Cameron Donald and Guy Martin, as well as local man, Dan Kneen who was moving up the leader board throughout the race. However, several late retirements – just two miles from home, completely changed the fate of the race’s finale.
