Ten electric machines lined up for this historic 2012 TT Zero Race, which saw all three finalists break the prestigious 100pmh lap mark – hailed as one of the greatest achievements in the TT’s 100+ year history.

Michael Rutter, riding for Team Segway Racing MotoCzysz, had the honour of carrying the number one plate, and quickly established a lead of over 30 seconds from John McGuinness, riding for Team Mugen Shinden. Rutter’s teammate, Mark Miller was only several seconds adrift still.

Other strong contenders included Yoshinari Matsushita, representing Japanese outfit Komatti-Mirai Racing and Rob Barber on the Austrian TGM IOT outfit.

As the one-lap race continued, Rutter was rattling through the circuit, with an impressive one-minute lead over McGuiness, on pace for the ‘ton’ as he drew closer to the finish line.

The full-capacity Grandstand waited anxiously as the riders returned, and when the winner’s time of 100mph was reported, the crowd exploded into rapturous applause having witnessed history in the making! Writing both his and his team’s name into the Isle of Man TT Races record books.
