2022 Sidecar TT Race 2
7m 12s
A shortened one-lap race saw the winning duo take home their 12th TT win by a slender 2.3 seconds.
A thrilling opening lap saw three leading crews really make their mark. As anticipated at the front were brother pairing Ben and Tom Birchall, closely followed by Peter Founds/Jevan Walmsley and Manx duo Ryan and Callum Crowe.
Mere seconds separated the leading three outfits; the Birchall’s advantage a slim 0.7 seconds over Founds/Walmsley. The Crowes were only a further second back and it was starting to look like the three podium places from the earlier sidecar race would remain unchallenged.
Over Ballaugh Bridge and the Birchalls had stretched their lead to two seconds over Founds/Walmsley with the Crowes a further 1.3s in arrears. The three outfits were rapidly pulling away from the rest of the field, although TT sidecar legend Dave Molyneux, and passenger Daryl Gibson, were holding onto a strong fourth.
Due to an incident at Ago’s Leap the result was declared at the end of lap one, the winning crew taking home their 12th TT win.
