John McGuinness, Conor Cummins, and Steve Plater offered up a belter of a performance at this Superbike Race on Monday 8th June 2009.
McGuinness kicked off the race with one of his customary fast first laps, setting a new lap record – five seconds clear of Cummins. John then went on to break his own outright lap record set in 2007 with his second lap.
Other strong contenders were Guy Martin, who completed the race on a Honda 1-2-3 and made up for the disappointment he had had in the previous year, which resulted in retirement. Plater put in a great ride and made his first Superbike TT podium.
With Honda celebrating their 50th anniversary of racing it proved to be a memorable day with the team filling the first five places, which included Ian Hutchinson and Gary Johnson, the former overhauling the latter with a strong final lap of 129.428mph, his personal best.
The race was also watched by Valentino Rossi, who later completed a lap of his own.
Other notable moments included Adrian Archibald achieving the fastest ever lap by an Irishman and Ian Lougher completing his 100th TT!
