Steve Plater was at the forefront of this highly dramatic Senior TT Tace, taking control after early race leader John McGuinness encountered issues on the fourth lap.
During this race, Morecambe rider, McGuinness, had smashed his four-day outright lap record with a lap speed of 131.578mph, the fastest ever lap seen on the Mountain Circuit. Plater and Conor Cummins also broke the 130mph barrier.
The remarkable race saw four leading riders forced out of the running due to technical issues, which included a smoking engine and a broken chain. On the fourth lap a 2009 double-race winner crashed at the Quarter Bridge, losing his third position but also the event’s first prize and Joey Dunlop Trophy they were scheduled to win for the overall championship.
With a host of retirements, that saw just four riders from the overall top ten finish, Irishman Adrian Archibald moved up the order to fourth.
Cummins performed excellently throughout, making the top three and was the first Manxman to stand on the Senior TT Race podium since Gary Carswell in 2004.
Other highlights included Jenny Tinmouth smashing her lap record achieved earlier in the race week which saw her become the fastest female rider in the TT’s history.
