Ian Hutchinson proved his racing stripes in the first of the 2015 Isle of Man TT Monster Energy Supersport Races, following his comeback from career-threatening leg injuries suffered in 2010, the year he won a record-breaking five solo TT races.
It was an exhilarating race to the finish line with Hutchinson, Gary Johnson, Dean Harrison, and James Hillier vying for the winner’s podium.
Only seconds separated the top pack in the opening lap, with Johnson in front followed by teammate Harrison and Hutchinson and Hillier, who were almost dead level.
On lap two things changed again, with Hutchinson and his Yamaha up in front, with Superbike winner Bruce Anstey now on his tail by a margin of just 2 seconds. Johnson wasn’t willing to let go of his second place though, with him and Anstey matching each other - their times almost equal.
The fourth and final lap made for a nerve-racking finish, with Anstey mounting a last lap charge against Hutchinson. The final victor came home just 7 seconds clear - a fairy tale finish and his ninth TT win.
