Michael Rutter dominated this Bennetts Lightweight TT Race at the 2017 Isle of Man TT Races, fending off strong competition from the likes of former race winner Ivan Lintin, Martin Jessopp and pre-race favourite, Peter Hickman.
Rutter led the opening lap, his Paton team-mate Stefano Bonetti close behind, with Jessopp only fourth tenths of a second back. As they passed through the timing points, Rutter continued to increase his lead with Jessopp now close on his tail, as Bonetti battled on track with Hickman for third.
The four-lap race continued in dramatic fashion, Rutter pulling further clear, but with Jessopp only two seconds behind him. However, Rutter immediately responded and almost doubled his lead on the high-speed run to the finish line, the pair circulating on the road.
The eventual winner took the win by just 8 seconds, securing his fifth TT win and a new lap record in the process. Second place secured his second ever TT podium and best-ever result, with third taking his fourth podium from four starts that week!
