This thrilling Superbike event, the first to kick off the 2014 TT race week, saw Michael Dunlop pit it out for the winner’s podium against early race leader James Hillier and fast starters Guy Martin, Dean Harrison, and Gary Johnson.
As the laps unfolded, Dunlop was charging across the Mountain Course, and rocketed through to take a new lap record of 131.890mph. The top six was also constantly changing, with local man Conor Cummins and John McGuinness creeping up the board.
Dunlop, Martin, McGuinness, and Hillier were circulating in close formation on the roads, but this was Dunlop’s race to take from Martin who was in close contention. The finale signalled the winner’s eighth victory and BMW’s first ‘big bike’ win since the 1939 Senior. Cummins eventually made the podium too after giving it his all in the final lap.
Bruce Anstey also put in a show-stopping performance, becoming the first ever man to have lapped at more than 132mph in his final hour.
