The first Isle of Man TT race in three years got off to a cracking start, when Peter Hickman and Dean Harrison battled it out for victory in this six-lap RST Superbike race.
The race got off to a solid start, with Hickman leading, followed by Davey Todd, Harrison, and Manxman Connor Cummins – just 1.5 seconds covering the trio. Other contenders vying for podium places included Michael Dunlop, James Hillier, and John McGuiness MBE - embarking on his 100th TT race!
By the second lap, Hickman was soaring clear of Harrison, with Cummins now in third just 2.5 seconds ahead of Todd. However, one of the rider’s hopes were soon dashed following an early retirement.
More disappointment ensued following several other high-profile retirements – changing the dynamics in what was to become a highly dramatic race.
As the race drew to a close Hickman continued to stretch his advantage, setting the fastest lap of the race at 133.461mph whilst fighting off still competition from Harrison and Dunlop, who was now up in third.
Meanwhile, the battle for fourth remained wide open between McGuinness, Ian Hutchinson, and Jamie Coward.
Other highlights included Glenn Irwin finishing in the top 10 - becoming the fastest ever newcomer in the TT’s history.
