2010 TT Zero winner, Mark Miller, set off in the number one position at this 2011 electric bike race, closely followed by his MotoCzysz teammate Michael Rutter – both riders running together on the road for much of the 37¾ mile circuit. However, John Burrows, riding for Lightning Motorcycles, was in hot pursuit.
Russ Mountford (Brunel X Team) and George Spence for the ION Horse Ecotricity Kingston University outfit were next on the road, the first two of the four university outfits competing for the £5,000 University Prize.
Rutter went on to post an impressive speed of 149.5mph, later revealing he could have gone quicker but wanted to conserve power.
One of the MotoCzysz pair went on to cross the finish line first, clocking an agonisingly close 99.604pmh - narrowly missing out on being the first electric bike rider to achieve a TT ton. The victorious rider did however break the lap record set by his teammate in the previous year.
