Once again, Ian Hutchinson and Michael Dunlop dominated this opening Monster Energy Supersport race of the 2016 Isle of Man TT Races.
Hutchinson signalled his intentions from the off, with Dean Harrison and Dunlop in close quarters on the opening lap. Other strong riders included James Hiller, Lee Johnston and John McGuinness who maintained the top six positions for most of the race.
As the race wore on, Dunlop continued to make inroads into Hutchinson’s lead – the leading duo nearly matching each other on the roads. A number of high-profile retirements, including Bruce Anstey and Ivan Lintin, meant that Manxman Conor Cummins could move up the leader board in the contest for fourth with Hillier and McGuinness – a battle that went all the way up to the wire.
In the closing lap, the lead rider encountered some traffic, but duly came home for his 12th TT win and seventh in the Supersport class, in a race-record winning time.
