Michael Rutter and his Mugen teammate John McGuinness were the stars of this TT Zero Race at the 2019 Isle of Man TT.
2019 was TT Zero’s tenth year, with the lap record having gone from an average speed of 96mph to 121pmh – the new record set in this very race.
Having been dominated by the Japanese-based factory team Mugen for many years, it was no surprise that Rutter and McGuinness remained at the front – battling it out for the number one position throughout the race’s entirety.
Other strong contenders included Davey Todd representing the University of Nottingham in third, and veteran competitor Ian Lougher, riding for Team Mirai.
Although McGuinness set the fastest time through one of the various speed traps - a remarkable 176mph, it was Rutter that set a new lap record of 121mph+ as they both raced to the finish line - the eventual victor clinching his fifth win in the electric bike class. While also extending his personal record of winning every TT Zero race he’d ever participated in!
