The first Monster Energy Supersport Race of the 2012 Isle of Man TT Races was a showstopper, with the leading positions changing at almost every timing point.
The two Dunlop brothers, William, and Michael were fastest out of the blocks, with Michael leading for the first several laps, closely followed by his brother, Gary Johnson, Cameron Donald, Bruce Anstey, and Ryan Farquhar – with only seconds between them.
At the halfway point one of the Dunlops retired, which completely changed the dynamics of the race. As the leaders tore around the last 37.73 miles, positions were back and forth, with just a mere 0.62 seconds splitting the leading trio!
The eventual winner took home his 9th TT win, ten years after his first, by a staggering 0.77 seconds – the second closest finish in the history of the TT.
